Nike SB spread their wings and come together with Columbia, South Carolina’s finest, Bluetile Skateboards for a beauty of a Dunk. The Nike SB x Bluetile Skateboards Dunk Low takes cues and hues from the monarch butterfly, celebrating the elegant pollinators who find community in places far from home, as well as the local skate scene and the shops cultural impact over the last 25 years. The monarchs are on the loose.
The metamorphosis starts in the upper, bringing together a textured black leather and Pitch Blue underlay which is reminiscent of a clear night sky, whilst a flutter of perforations on the toe box reveal the shape of the unique monarchs that reside in South Carolina year-round.
Loaded with Southern charm, there are a bunch of nods to the home state of Bluetile, including handwritten notes on the tongue tag reading “All The Best" and "Love, Bluetile", as well as a South Carolina state flag and stitched palm root on the inside tongue. Round the back, more campfire orange and deep blues surround the black leather heel tab, which firmly stamps the name ‘Bluetile’, where the SB branding usually sits.
The showstopper of the shoe, though, the vibrant monarch wings which live off the lace flaps, ready to take flight in a flurry of orange, blues, and whites. The details don’t stop there, though, with a kaleidoscope of monarchs gracing the sockliner, and caterpillar style furry laces (in both black and orange) which nod to the fuzzy body of the butterflies.
Underfoot, a translucent outsole gradients from warm to cool, subtly housing all the tech you would expect from a shoe in the SB Dunk lineup, including a padded low-cut collar for comfort, cushioned PU foam insole with Nike Zoom Air Heel insert, and a rubber outsole with the Dunk's classic tread for grip and durability. This is shoe which is ready to hatch from its chrysalis and fly. A fitting tribute to a brand that does so much for the South Carolinian Skate scene.
